Maybe I’m losing my New York edge, or maybe I’ve fully embraced the California comfort-lifestyle, but I am HERE for sweatsuits. I’ve been watching this casual co-ord trend creep up the street style leaderboard these past few months. And while the New Yorker in me is cringing (We. Dress. Up. For. Everything.), I am loving the model-off-duty vibe of the sweatsuit. I think there are a few keys to nailing the sweatsuit look without looking like a college kid stumbling to their 9am Chem final after pulling an all-nighter.
- Match your top and bottoms. This part is simple, but the most important. You will look instantly more pulled together if both pieces of your sweatsuit match. I gave you the exact opposite advice two years ago, here. Fashion “rules” are always changing!
- Add a statement bag: something structured and feminine. No gym bags or backpacks here.
- Keep your footwear sleek. No dirty athletic shoes within a 10 ft radius of this ‘fit.
- Finish it off with killer jewelry. A bold necklace or statement earrings.
If you’re interested, I first wrote about the tracksuit trend re-emergence two years ago here. In this post I’m wearing the fleece sweatpants and sweatshirt from Richer Poorer, and I’ve also collected more of my favorites from ’round the Internet below.
