Neutrals for Spring? Groundbreaking.

The perfect outfit for the flea market!

Neutrals, for spring? Groundbreaking. No, I really do mean groundbreaking! At least for me. Usually when warmer weather finally rolls around, I find myself immediately reaching for the prints, patterns, and boldest colors in my closet. But this year I’ve been singing a different tune. In my head. You don’t want me singing out loud, trust me.

The important thing when building a neutral outfit is to focus on textures. Because there isn’t as much color and pattern at play, it’s easier for the eye to glaze over a neutral palette. I think natural textures look best, because the colors themselves are more warm and earthy. Cotton, linen, straw, wood, cork, raffia, etc. Remember this post where I talked about considering materials that feel like they belong in the same family? That definitely applies here.

Lastly, and this should come at no surprise, I recommend going big and bold with your accessories. In this sartorial scenario: a massive hat, straw bag, or printed scarf can give your neutral outfit some stylistic “oomph.” And can help make you appear more weekend-chic and less yogi-shab.
