How to Wear Overalls

I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to write a post on my favorite clothing item! It’s difficult for me to even articulate how much I love overalls, but I shall try. Overalls are my secret weapon—they’re the easiest way to appear hip and edgy, but require almost zero sartorial effort. Similar to jumpsuits, they’re almost an entire outfit in one clothing item. What could be easier than that?

I’ll wear my overalls with sneakers on the weekends, but dress them up with boots or heels for work. Overalls have a classic, all-American vibe, so keep your top in line with that theme. Think graphic tees for casual wear, or button-downs for a dressier look. Steer clear of embellishments or fancy fabrics—they’ll clash with the laid back overalls vibe. I also love to sprinkle in some western wear: a bolo tie, bandana, or cowboy hat (sometimes all three!) because I can’t resist dressing like a caricature sometimes.

They biggest key in wearing overalls is finding your perfect fit. I prefer a looser, vintage fit, but if you like ’em tight, you’re in luck: overalls are totally “in”, so lots of brands have them available in snug styles. I’ve linked some of my faves below. Usually when I’m wearing vintage I’ll try to find similar styles to link for you, but today I found you the exact same overalls and coat I’m wearing here. If you’ve been reading for awhile, you know how uncommon this is. This particular Woolrich coat is very rare (I searched for mine for a year before I found it), so someone better scoop it up right now!
