I first discovered The Kit through Instagram, but quickly realized they are more than just another cute fashion line. They are truly a clothing brand who is doing things differently. The Kit is the brainchild of Project Runway Allstar (and winner) Daniel Vosovic, who was one of my absolute favorite designers on the show. I still think about his dress from Season Two’s “flower power” episode.
Vosovic focuses on creating compatible collections for The Kit—which means his pieces are both season-less and easily worn together. Pick up a few items and create a shockingly large amount of outfit combinations. Or choose one piece and watch how it seamlessly mixes into your current wardrobe. I’ve found myself reaching into my closet for The Cut Paper Jean Jacket (worn below) on a daily basis. I’m continuously impressed with how it seems to go with every outfit. More to come on my love affair with The Kit and their ethical production model (yes, you read that right! They’re an ethical AND affordable clothing company!) in this blog post.
When The Kit asked me to style some pieces from their latest collection, I jumped at the opportunity. They also asked me to answer a few questions, which made me feel totally cool. Read about the badass women interviewed on the #TheKitList here.

What is the stupidest thing you’ve ever purchased when you were broke AF? 100 years ago, when I was in college, I worked as an unpaid intern for Opening Ceremony and I definitely bought clothes from there when I couldn’t afford it. I mean, I had no income, I should not have been shopping! But one of those purchases was a pair of grunge booties, which I still wear to this day. So I call it a smart investment purchase.

What is the craziest excuse you’ve made up to stay in to Netflix and chill? “When I RSVP to a party I make it my business to come!” Samantha Jones was referring to something other than plans, but the sentiment rings true. I generally don’t flake on people, or lie if I can no longer fulfill a commitment. If I say I’m going to do something, I do it! The older I’ve gotten, the more I’ve realized that people are dang busy and wasting their time (whether a professional or social obligation) is f*cked up.

What do you secretly want to wear to work but afraid you’ll be judged in? I will wear pretty wacky stuff to the office (I’m lucky to work in a pretty casual industry) but even though I wear whatever-ish I want, I never show too much skin. I’ve never been a super skimpy dresser even outside of work, so I keeping it covered up at the office isn’t much of a challenge.

What are your thoughts on avocado toast… LOVE it. Never overrated. But not necessarily always good. I’ve had some bad (soggy, tasteless, under-seasoned) avo toast before and it’s always devastating because the anticipation and excitement is so real.

What was the worst outfit a friend put on that you lied and told her she looked good in. I never lie! I’ll always tell you if I don’t like something. I mean, I’ll try to do it in a way that doesn’t offend you, but I’ll always be honest. I’m also blessed with a lot of very fashionable friends, so if anything, I’m copying their outfits, not dissing them!

What would you tell your younger self to stop taking so seriously? So. Many. Things. But I think this one takes the cake: Stop worrying about everybody liking you. Some people are going to dislike you no matter what you do, so get over it and keep doing you.
And one thing to take more seriously: Take care of your skin: Wear sunscreen, moisturize, wash off your makeup every night, drink water, and sleeeeeeep.
Check out my first of two outfits featuring The Kit:
