White on White Winter Wonderland
When the weather hits the low teens, museum hopping is the best (err, only) way to spend the weekend. Luckily, in New York City, you can go to two museums every weekend for months and never repeat yourself. Google just told me that there are almost 100 museums in the five boroughs. But, if I’m being honest, I think I’ve only been to about 10. My favorites in no particular order:
- The Whitney: In 2015, The Whitney moved downtown to Gansevoort Street, from its Madison Avenue location. I love the old Breuer building more than the new building on the High Line. Probably because it’s such a weird and “ugly” piece of architecture in comparison to the rest of the city.
- The Guggenheim: The unique exterior of the Goog, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in the late 1940’s, makes it one of the most recognizable museums in the world. And I love the way the interior is one long pathway that guides patrons through the gallery. It’s a welcome alternative to the endless maze-like feel of most museums.
- The Neue Galerie: I love The Neue purely for the art housed here—German and Austrian art from the early 1900’s. It’s where I first discovered and fell in love with Egon Schiele’s work.
- The MoMA: The MoMA will always be one of my favorites because modern art includes my favorite styles—Abstract Art, De Stijl, Constructivism, and Pop Art. The collection at The MoMA is massive, and each time I go I discover something new.
I almost never dress in neutrals, but I was really into mixing whites on this snowy morning. I also love that my peppered rabbit fur jacket matches the dirty snow. What’s your favorite way to spend a snowy weekend?
