Dressed Up

Best Summer Wedding Outfit

Raise your hand if you’re going to, like, 10 wedding this season. That was me last year. But as I’ve mentioned previously, I f*cking LOVE weddings. Weddings are an excuse to dress up, dance, and bask in the love of someone you love. I’m feeling extra giddy about this wedding season because my bff is getting married in September. (I’m also a little nervous because I have to write a speech, but that’s a problem for Future Abby to tackle.)

If you can actually believe it, this is my bridesmaid dress. 😱 I knowwwww, lucky me. The bride let us pick out our own dresses, within a set color palette. And I majorly scored. TBH, I was kind of looking for an excuse to buy this tiered Staud beauty anyways. Oh, and before I go any further, y’all should know that IT’S ON SALE right now. Of course, I bought it at full price, but such is life.

I am super duper into tiers and ruffles this season. If you don’t know the difference, tiers are just extra large ruffles that are layered flat. But I think most people use the two terms interchangeably. The tiers and off-the-shoulder sleeves add a romantic vibe to this dress, and the ruching around the waist is also super “on trend” (I hate this term, because I don’t necessarily subscribe to “trends.” I basically just mean that I really like ruching lately too. I have no idea if anyone else thinks it’s hot right now).

I always get tripped up with what outwear to wear over a fancy dress. Especially when the weather will be breezy, but not cold enough to warrant an actual coat or jacket that you just coat check before you go inside anyways. [Sidenote: I grew up in California and did not know coat check was a thing until I was in my 20’s 🤦‍♀️.]

I really wanted something funkier than a shawl or pashmina, and dressier than a cardigan. Cue this short kimono from Davis Tisdale Vintage. This piece is truly a thing of beauty. And it’s SO versatile. And you know how I feel about statement pieces being versatile. You can just as easily throw this bad boy on over jeans and a tank, or even wear it as a cover up at the beach!

My homegirl over at DTV let me borrow it just for this shoot, AND she’s giving you a promo code for 20% off the shop! Use PIZZA20 at checkout in her Etsy shop. (Valid through July.)

Styling Tip: Remember you can put an earring jacket on any pair of earrings. Above I’ve combined these pearl drop earrings (the drop parts are jackets) with a statement ear crawler for some exxxxxtra pizzaz.

Beautiful! I love a kimono too as a snazzy cover-up. Much more chic than a pashmina.

Abby, this is an absolutely gorgeous shoot. Thank you for including Davis Tisdale Vintage as part of it. You did that kimono some serious justice 😉 xx
