Slow Fashion: Matter’s Genius Jumpsuit

From AM to PM in my All Day Jumpsuit by Matter Prints

I feel like by now, we’re all aware of the negative implications of fast fashion. If you’d like a refresher, The L.A. Times just published an insightful (and distressing) piece on Forever 21’s unethical manufacturing practices. But avoiding fast fashion takes real effort: as women (and especially as bloggers) there is so much pressure to constantly wear new clothes and follow the latest trends. And it’s so easy to buy new stuff when it’s cheap and accessible. Investing in quality over quantity is both a challenge and a privilege. Not all of us have the disposable income to support sustainable brands and/or small businesses.

I want you to know that I’m never here to judge your shopping habits (hell, I’m wearing a jacket from Zara in these photos). But I think we can all make an effort to educate ourselves on where our clothes come from, and strive to support sustainability and ethics in the fashion industry: whether that’s through shopping second-hand and vintage, or buying from eco-friendly and socially responsible brands. As consumers, we don’t have the ability to control the actions of corporations, but we DO have the power to choose where we spend our hard earned paychecks.

Okay, I’ll climb off my soap box now.

Cue the latest environmental and socially intentional brand on my radar: the Singapore-based, slow fashion pioneer, Matter. Matter focuses on sustainable textile production and connecting textile artisans with designers and customers. They are the epitome of slow fashion: they produce seasonless styles (classic prints and silhouettes) in small quantities, while making design tweaks and improvements as suggested by their customers. They create garments and accessories that accompany you through day and night, always with the ethos of comfort and versatility in mind.

Whether your job involves running around on your feet all day, or sitting on your behind in front of a computer screen, there’s nothing better than being able to wear your pajamas. I mean, you probably can’t wear your actual pajamas to work (unless you’re one of those lucky folks who work from home), but this jumpsuit from Matter is the next best thing. If you’ve been watching my Get Dressed With Me series on Insta Stories, then y’all know how seriously I take comfort into consideration when I get dressed.

You can shop this jumpsuit here, or read about it’s genius functionality on Racked here.
