Dress Over Pants, Again

Rarely do I put together an outfit that is both fashionable (by my silly standards) and comfortable. Usually I’m sacrificing one for the other, and it’s most often the latter for the former. And these days, with spring right around the corner, I’m also not wearing enough warm layers, which only compounds the discomfort factor. All it takes is one 60-degree day, and I’ve mentally packed away all my coats and scarves, high on visions of bikinis and platform sandals.

So, when I stumble upon an outfit that is functional, fashionable, and comfortable, I’ve hit the clothing combination trifecta. Here I’ve layered a sheer floral dress over some released-hem denim skinnies, and added an oversized denim jacket and combat boots to dial up that grungy 90’s vibe. The hidden hero of this outfit, and my secret weapon for keeping warm in the winter, is my Uniqlo Heattech turtleneck. I don’t know if I believe that the technology of the “heat tech” makes it measurably warmer than any other turtleneck, but I love that they come in so many colors and styles and are totally reasonably priced. I own 3 in black and layer them under practically everything during the winter. But they also come in handy during seasonal transitions when my irrational desire to wear lighter jackets outweighs my rational need for warmth.

The last time I wore this dress, it was for a fall wedding and the styling was wayyyyy different. I love challenging myself to dress down a fancy piece for everyday wear. It’s a great way to get more mileage out of something fancy. And fancy often = expensive, so it’s even more important to get that bang for your buck, girl!

We loved the Williamsburg Flea that we visited last weekend, and it’s worth the trip to Brooklyn. Thanks for this list of fleas in Manhattan too. These are fun day-cations!

I live for the Uniqlo Heattech turtlenecks as well! After discovering them this past “winter” (I live in socal..haha) I found the most beautiful white vintage summer dress and couldn’t wait to wear it. So I popped my black turtleneck under and voila! Instantly winter appropriate…I think! Thank you for all the wonderful inspiration!

Yayyyy! That’s exactly why I love love love Heattech. It makes it possible for me to wear whatever I want even in frigid temps! So glad we’re on the same level! xoxo
