Making Vintage Denim Work for Work
Remember a few weeks ago when I spilled my tips and tricks for buying vintage denim? Good, because now I’m styling that exact same pair of jeans for the office. Dressing down denim is a no brainer, but dressing up denim takes a bit more planning. When one area of my outfit is super casual, I’ll over compensate in other areas to turn the fancy factor up. For example, if I need to look profesh, but feel like wearing sneakers, I’ll pair them with a midi skirt, like this babe here.
If you want to wear denim to the office and still look like a boss, there are a few ground rules.
- Stick to dark denim washes or black jeans. Save your acid wash for the weekend.
- Steer clear of rips, embellishments, or too much distressing.
- Make sure they fit properly! There’s nothing more embarrassing than bending down to pick up a pen and accidentally showing a room full of clients your butt cleavage.
My easy outfit equation for denim at work is graphic blouse + tailored blazer + fancy footwear. Sprinkle in some fun accessories for extra points (a statement necklace or patterned socks)! It never hurts to finish your outfit off with an obnoxious faux fur coat. Consider the glam alarm officially ringing.
Do you think this equation is foolproof? Give it a go and send me a pic!
